Blog Assignment #1

Hello, guys. I am going to share what my research paper is about and introduce some resources for my paper.

My research paper will discuss that human cloning should be banned by utilizing a science fiction movie, The Island as an example. This movie presents the humanity of the clones by describing them as regular people, so that the audience can see the argument, which is whether to allow the cloning of humans for medical treatment. My research paper will argue the moral values of cloning and explore what is a human being by comparing between the film and the reality of the present.  I did research for my paper on the online databases of LaGuardia library and would share some of them.

First of all, I found a journal article on Academic Search Complete, “Ethical issues regarding human cloning: a nursing perspective” by Leyla Dinç. The article explains what scientists do to improve techniques of cloning and shows ethical issues of human cloning. In the article, Dinc writes, “The second concern is the developmental abnormalities that have been observed in various mammals cloned by somatic nuclear transfer. The large offspring syndrome has been a common problem occurring in several livebirth animals.”(240).  The author challenges human cloning from a nursing perspective by writing a consequence that experiments of cloning have a risk to create deformed individuals, which is not ethical. This article helps my research paper to show my readers what scientists do on the process of cloning, and argue that humans a right to control life of animals and people, so that my readers can consider what are the moral values of human cloning.

On the other hand, I saw a positive opinion of human cloning in Moral Status of Persons, by Jonathan K. L. Chan. This article was on Academic Search Complete. Chan explains that as long as clones don’t harm humans, human cloning research shouldn’t be prohibited. In his book, Chan states, “Thus, if we accept that people have the general right to pursue knowledge, we need also to accept that people have the right to do scientific research.”(196). He believes that people have a right to do research to gain knowledge. He also asserts that clones would have a different personality by having different experiences and this doesn’t hurt the originals. I will add to my paper why he believes that clones don’t harm humans. This article allows my research paper to show the pros of human cloning and explains why scientists have been doing research in human cloning. This positive perspective makes my paper more argumentative and helps my paper to challenge human cloning.

I hope that this help can help to write your research paper!
